X factor is now on its 12th season, frankly I’m unsure of how it has been on our screens for so long seeing as it started in 2004.

I’m sure maybe in the past, when it was first came onto our screens it was revolutionary and we hadn’t seen anything like it. Maybe it was new and refreshing. The same can’t be said now, in 2015 it is dull and repetitive. In my opinion anyway.

Simon Cowell has clearly tried to keep the show interesting and mix it up every year by changing the judges. Of course to keep view ratings on the up. Nick Grimshaw and Rita Ora are popular and current that appeal to younger generation, an attempt to save the show but I don’t think it’s worked.

The X factor is practically the same every year, we all expect to see someone really shitty at singing, where obviously their friend has been too kind and encouraged them to apply. Now they’re on TV making a tit of themselves in front of the nation. Oh don’t forget about the sob story we hear every year, it changes depending on the person but they always include one.
Not to mention the ‘winner’ which we never hear of again. They’re all the same, someone who sings pop/mainstream music, what about rock singers? Alternative bands? And those who start the competition as a little quirky and different, by the end of it they’ve been manufactured into a replica of a pop artist.

I think it’s fixed. There has been shit loads of speculation on Facebook where people have spotted bad continuity errors, where someone in a group was wearing his jumper and not another minutes. Oops fucked up there didn’t you. There has also been more speculation about the x factor being fixed.

The most interesting thing to happen to the X factor in years was Frankie Cocozza who caused controversy by shoving cocaine up his nose, which I thought was highly entertaining. Everyone either loved him or hated him.

True Romance (1993) is possibly the best film I’ve ever seen. It’s a true masterpiece. I’m so glad my dad showed me this hidden gem. Set in Detroit it is surrounded by rundown buildings and gangs but some of the scenes are truly picture-esc.

I don’t want to ruin the plot otherwise what’s the point in you going to watch it? An everyday man Clarence falls in love with a hooker called Alabama and accidentally steals cocaine from her pimp. The plot gets more complicated minute by minute but the Director Tony Scott always captured the un-dying love between the pair, how every turn they’re always there for each other, it’s their main concern.

I think one of the reasons this film is fucking fantastic is that Quentin Tarantino is the writer. It shows. All of his movies are amazing Pulp Fiction and Reservoir Dogs are classics that everyone enjoys. The soundtrack has been seamlessly intertwined with the movie, it’s not what you’d expect but it works so well and it’s really emotional. (Well I think so anyway).

I’m not entirely sure why this film isn’t as well known, it has been executed perfectly. Christian Slater is an amazing actor, how he manages to keep a straight face when talking to Elvis which is his inner persona I do not know. Patricia Arquette should have won a medal for her role, she fully devotes herself to Clarence and it really is believable. Even when she has blood dripping down her face she is still beautiful.

This is the soundtrack used in the film. My dad got married to this song because the love story reminded him of his then wife, how fucking cool is that.

Go watch this film whenever you can. Preferably immediately.

Rihanna is now Pumas brand ambassador and creative director, and now has her own collection called Fenty, RiRi is unstoppable.

The new collection is said to combine and capture Rihanna’s free spirit and her creative energy, Rihanna spoke about the collection itself and said “It’s great to find a brand that celebrates strength and individuality.”

We’re not disagreeing with you there. The shoes, labelled as creepers are some quirky concoction that we haven’t seen before. It includes the traditional feature of a platform sole but that’s all. Everything else has been revolutionised.

The shoe has a trainer feel on top, with the laces and the shape of the shoe. All the creepers from the Fenty collection are suede and include the Puma brand on the side of the shoe. They also include the dynamics of the Puma trainer with the stitching being visible on the outside in a swooping motion on the sides of the shoe.

They come in a variety of colours; black, beige, greys and browns. All very neutral colours that can be easily worked into any outfit in everyday life. Perfect for the everyday person.

They are magnificent and I’m eager to get my hands on a pair but for now I’ll just lust over them. The collection has already been released and of course is now sold out. Holding my breath and hoping they will be re-stocked soon.

Rick Owens latest collection at Paris Fashion Week has yet again caused controversy and raised a few eyebrows. But it comes as no surprise as the previous year he sent his models down the runway with their penises out. He needed to turn heads and get people’s attention and that’s exactly what he did.

The models reportedly wore pieces of ‘sculptural silk gazar’ which had been accessorised with human backpacks and fanny packs. Some of the models were on their back whilst others cradled them at the front. It was dynamic and interesting to put it in simple terms.

Apparently Owens was making a feminist statement; “women raising women, women becoming women and women supporting women”. It is evident that in society the media has turned females against each other for several years, seeing them as the enemy and threatening. It’s refreshing to see the designers ideas behind the collection and it genuinely having relevance on today’s society.

This fashion runway also focuses in on the constantly evolving fashion world that we have created. The catwalk has now become a show, a performance often with dynamic layouts, music and accessories enhancing the experience.

Owens collection, amongst many others have changed the perception of the fashion world and the impact is has on a ground level, affecting your average joe and not just your designer in Paris sitting in the front row. New and important messages such as feminism, slavery and capitalism are frequently entwined into the show left for the audience to untangle.

There has been a resemblance of the Human Centipede in this collection though…

This ad is incredible. Once seen as revolutionary the audience are now seeing it frequently. And it’s not just Diesel that have turned their backs on objectifying people, other brands such as Levi have also started to follow their footsteps.

It is refreshing to see an advert that isn’t using overtly sexualising a person to simply sell their product. There is a blurred line between male and female, and at first glance you can’t tell, but does it really matter? Are blurred barriers because we’ve become lazy, or have we stopped this outdated, ‘traditional’ advertising because it’s pointless trying to reinforce these ideas.

People are more openly admitting that they’re crossdressing, transgender and so on. Females use to be associated with cooking and motherly type roles whereas men are associated with toughness, intelligence and authority. Society as a whole has been pushing against these ideals and stereotypes for a number of years, are we finally seeing the results?

Genders are now being represented similarly in advertising (although it is still present among some magazines) but toys and clothing are still being produced and marketed in the outdated way. ‘Boys’ toys are to do with expression, noise and brutality. Whereas ‘girls’ toys are more reserved, they have to sit and play quietly. Which is fucking ridiculous, they’ve made LEGO for girls. If I could insert a crying emoji face I would (sarcastically of course).

Society needs to evolve at its own pace, but it doesn’t mean we should tolerate gendered toys and bullshit sexualised advertising in the meantime. Thank you i-D for installing hope in all of us. *Coughs for other magazines and advertisements to get their shit together*

It’s no longer rumoured but confirmed that there is going to be a sequel to Danny Boyle’s film Trainspotting. It's actually fucking happening. It’s clear that everyone’s eager to see the follow up for the classic 1996 film.

Apparently the filming will take place next May or June so there is still a little wait before it graces our screens once again. It’s a huge sigh of relief that all the boys are back in, Renton, Begbie, Spud and Sickboy will shock and amuse us once more.

Apparently the budget blows the previous one out the water with £13m. The bigger the better but I hope that it doesn’t lose the grime-y feel that was in the previous film. It is important that the audience still get the depressed feel of Edinburgh.  We still want those heroin addicts to be shooting up in dark, dingy places. We still want the brutal daily life that a drug addict faces.

We all remember those amazing scenes where he dived into the diarrhoea filled toilet and the violent fuelled scene at the pub. We hope that this film doesn’t lose its twisted sense of humour.

But there is a habit with sequels. That usually they’re shit and ruin the legacy of the first film. Don’t do it to us Boyle's. We’ll never forgive you.

Catfish and the Bottlemen, started as a small band in the UK trying to make it big. They started by playing smaller venues but are now touring around the UK and even managed to break through into America. Their album ‘The Balcony’ was released on the 19th of June 2014. Also that year they played at Reading and Leeds festival, and have secured a set there the following year.

The album has been a huge success by being included in the top 10 UK album charts. That’s pretty fucking impressive for their first album, it even got certified gold in UK on January 9th, 2015.

I remember seeing them in November 2015, at the Wedgewood Rooms in Portsmouth. A small intimate gig and it was magical. Although quite confined it didn’t stop the crowd from bouncing non-stop whilst they performed on stage. This was when Van had his shaggy hair and they were just finding their feet. It was amazing to see them before the music industry swallows them up entirely.

But it feels like we’ve seen this before? The small band making it big time, both in the UK and the US. The lead singer getting a make-over, well cutting his shaggy hair and turning into a complete dickhead? Yeah I’m talking about Arctic Monkeys.

I hope that Van and his band don’t become obnoxious assholes, because if you’re a twat it doesn’t matter how good your music is, people won’t listen.

The studio album released on 19th September 2014 has a soothing indie vibe that is seemed popular amongst the thousands, by entering the charts with “Take Me To Church” and “From Eden”. Hozier have also landed playing at Reading and Leeds festival 2014 which was said to be ‘mesmerising’.

The lyrics from their songs are so engaging, mixed with the crispness of his voice it is almost impossible to dislike. The strumming of the chords is magical, you hang off the edges of the riffs. It doesn’t matter if you listen to the album through your headphones or at gig, it is breath taking.

Hozier have done something slightly quirky that I haven’t seen done this way before, they have incorporated a vintage esc feel to their album, they’ve gone back to basics and thrown out the auto-tune with the majority of the album, some R&B elements have been weaved in as well. The whole album is crisp, you can really hear the passion when he sings, almost as if he is pouring his inner most thoughts out to you whilst you sit on the sofa. But it is also something that you can quite easily get up and dance too.

I have listened to the album in full, each song adds something different from talking about religion to weddings to death. I particularly enjoy ‘From Eden’, the rhythm and lyrics tangle between each other and address his romantic craving.
